la rioja alta

Quality, elegance, innovation, evolution... They are the pillars on which the five founding families erected our winery in 1890 and built a way of living, feeling and producing wines of the highest quality that continue to evolve subtly, perfectly adapting to new tastes.

This is how the permanent pursuit of excellence started; a pursuit that continues into the 21st century with identical enthusiasm. We draw the best from our winemaking tradition and wisdom —our own cooperage, manual racking, long ageing periods, etc.— and combine it with the most modern winemaking technology.

Today, our wines are an international exemplar of the great wines of Rioja and our brands are present in the best restaurants across all continents.

ramon bilbao

The development of top-quality wines together with innovation while respecting the purest Riojan tradition represented by the history of the wines of Ramón Bilbao, are the trademark of this emblematic company in Rioja Alta.

The philosophy that inspires the work carried out at the winery is the same philosophy that has prevailed, generation after generation, turning the men and women who work at our bodega into true experts in the art of ageing wines: grapes from the best estates and vineyards, casks made of the best oak from European and American forests, and all of this enhanced by the care and know-how of people who love wine above all else.

Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro

The cellar stands near the Duero River, adorning a road as Castilian as the one connecting Soria and Valladolid. The building is an ode to stone, solid and rustic, forming arcades of monastic reminiscence, with towers at the sides and a belfry crowned by a weathercock at the centre. The stone in the outside and the warm elm wood inside welcome visitors, increasing the mood for special wines.

Located within the limits of Carracedelo since 1998, CASAR DE BURBIA is one of the wineries of the Bierzo Appellation that has gotten the most notice from international critics and has contributed to place this region in León on the map for the wine sector.

A family run company that owes its success to the initial gamble of the family patriarch, Nemesio Fernández Bello, who began buying old Mencía vineyards located in the best areas of the region at the end of the 80’s that were practically abandoned, especially in the beautiful area of Valtuille de Arriba. Nemesio, originally from Galicia, did so against the tide, because back then, the majority of the growers in El Bierzo were getting rid of their vines because they barely made a profit off them.

After various years of acquiring vineyards, the estate has reached 27 hectares (66 acres) divided into a mosaic of 52 plots. The general management and technical department pass over to Isidro Fernández Bello, a tenacious agricultural engineer that has had the know-how to be able to transform the potential of those vineyards to unforeseen limits. Actually, due to Isidro’s insight and the ever-growing influence of the French in his enological work, CASAR DE BURBIA has become one of the latest fetish Spanish wineries.

The vineyards owned by CASAR DE BURBIA are distributed, in turn, into three standards of quality depending on their altitude, orientation and characteristics of the terrain. The Mencíavariety is the muse of Isidro Fernández’s wines, even though the winemaker also grows the Godello white grape variety.

We were the first winery to create cava using Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Pallerada grapes. Codorniu owns the oldest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards, used for the production of cava with vines aged 30 years or more. This makes us experts in wine-growing and wine-making using these varieties. We were the first winery to use international varieties, with the first Chardonnay cava in 1984, the first rose cava using Pinot Noir in 2001 and in 2008, the very first Blanc de Noirs, using Pinot Noir. We have created our own style for the cavas we produce, combining local and international grapes, to make stylish, very expressive, refreshing aromatic cavas, with utmost respect for grapes used and the land they come from. A complete range of cavas, of differing styles, to satisfy everybody's needs.
